And now, hundreds of colorful globes are occupying
Chicago's downtown! What's happening??

Replogle Globes
-the world's largest globe manufacturer-
A big signboard at the entrance was made in 2005 to celebrate Replogle’s 75 years.
Beautiful blue was shining out of green grass.
Main office of Replogle Globes. A large factory is behind this building. This is America! We didn’t know where is the end of Replogle, because of it’s vast site…
They show some original globes at the entrance of main office.
Replogle Globes was commended by the city as a bluechip firm supplying high quality products.
Replogle’s collection. Some of them were made several decades ago!
With a cartographer. They are updating maps everyday and supports maintaining Replogle’s globe as a latest information source.
Globe coverers at the factory. Large sized globes are all hand made. They need long-time training and consentration to make accurate map globes.

Chicago City View 1
-Architecture River Cruise-
After visiting Replogle Globes, we joined river cruise guiding Chicago’s magnificent architecture from the perspective of the Chicago River. Did you know Chicago is famous for the architecture?
Departure from Riverside Gardens at the Michigan Avenue. Wrigley Building is the headquaters of the famous chewing gum company Wrigley.

We saw many other boats on the way. This is one for Lake Michigan.
Let’s start cruising under the skyscraper!
View from the river. 333 West Wacker Drive, the building on the right side, looks like those at Shiodome!
Marina City, called ‘corn’ or ‘beehive’. Upper floors are residence space and lowers are parking lots. Still more under them…
Restaurants and marina! It’s ‘city within a city’.
Train called ‘Loop’ running around downtown. Trains are important transportation in Chicago.
The high building at the center is the Sears Tower, a symbol of Chicago. 442m in height and has 110 stories. We are going to the skydeck after cruising.
Now we are on Lake Michigan! The building of impressive shape on the right is the Lake Point Tower, condos.

On the way back, the Hotel Inter-Continental. A yuzco on the top!?
After cruising at the Milenium Park. A huge sculpture named ‘Cloud Gate’ reflects Chicago’s skyline and the clouds avobe.
Buckingham Fountain is also one of Chicago’s most popular attractions. Water blowing up to the height of 46 meters!

Skydeck Entrance of the Sears Tower. We have came here to view the earth from skydeck, and to see the project CoolGlobes.
Far bigger than we expected! This is the first coolglobe we saw at the entrance. CoolGlobes uses the medium of public art to inspire people to take action against global warming.
These are mini globes (11 inches in diameter) made by personalities.

Just after sunset, you can see the beautiful city lights. We are gong to see the CoolGlobes exhibition tommorow. The superb view kept us there until pitch-dark.

Found Segways! They are faster than we thought and running cutting wind looks like so much fun.
Today’s first coolglobe! It says planting greenery helps absorb harmful greenhouse gases.

‘Ride a bike’. Small things will lead to a big change… CoolGlobes told us there are so many things we can do to combat global warming.
At the end of the CoolGlobes was the Adler Planetarium. A big sundial - It’s 5:30 p.m.
The Adler Planetarium was built in 1930. An Old and profound atmosphere building.
Going back to the starting point. Wild gooses are going their home?

We were so much impressed meeting the people making globes with strong passion and the CoolGlobes with various hot messages. And at the O’Hare airport, what waiting for us feeling reluctant to leave Chicago was…
